Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
The stats of an item can be improved through upgrading it, also known as "upping". Each upgrade increment provides a linear increase in a given stat.
Players can recycle up to six items at a time to gain an indicator of the level of the item's upgraded components. The cost of recycling items scales depending on their rarity and level.
Upgrade components
In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade to an item is a method to boost the stats of your weapon and armor. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways such as using upgrade components or by increasing the rarity of an item or its mark level. item upgrades can also be reforged to boost their value.
Upgradeable items are available all over the game, both around the world and as rewards for missions. Players can also make them. Upgrade components are the primary way to upgrade equipment. These are items that can be inserted into equipment. The majority of equipment comes with slots for upgrading and some require a specific level of upgrade. Some upgrade components provide specific bonuses, while others give an overall bonus.
There are many types of upgrade elements available in the game. These include universal upgrades, inscriptions and jewels. The universal upgrades, such as gemstones and enchantments, can be put on any kind of equipment and offer lower bonuses than upgrades that are specific to equipment. Glyphs can be placed in gathering tools and offer various benefits, from increasing the speed of an item's gathering to providing extra crafting materials.

Select the item in your inventory, and then open the Upgrade window. This will display a preview on the right side of the screen that shows the expected stats after the upgrade, and any required components or materials. If you don't have enough of either the two, the Upgrade button will say Blocked.
The number of upgrade components needed for a given item is displayed in the upper-right corner of the Upgrade window. The cost of an upgrade increases depending on the rarity and level of the item increase. However, you can reduce the cost of upgrades by purchasing them from a vendor, or trading them with other players.
Most weapons can be improved by a prefix such as a rune or an insignia. Some can be upgraded by adding an suffix. These upgrades alter the name of the item and add an adjective, for example "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor. There are some exceptions, however. the non-inscribable weapons, such as shields and foci from the Prophecies and Factions campaigns, that cannot be upgraded using any mods at all.
Glyphs
Glyphs can be a powerful instrument for communicating visual information. They animate to capture the attention of the viewer and stimulate interest in the brain. The animation of glyphs mimics the body language, making them more effective in communicating an inter-linguistic message. Glyphs can also enhance the likelihood of remembering messages by creating a familiarity in the brain.
Each glyph comes with a range of values that it could increase a stat's value in the form of an item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use it to enchant an Artifact. This range is not the exact amount at which glyphs can improve the stat, but rather the maximum value by which it can increase a stat. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the quality and tier of the product you are enchanting it to.
Most upgrade components inserted into items can't be repaired or replaced without dismantling the equipment in question, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a glyph or rune you don't want to use but it hasn't been applied to the gear yet, you can transfer the item to a different piece by using the Upgrade Glyphs menu in the Glyphs Panel. This will create a Glyph Set that includes the selected glyph.
If you wish to remove a glyph from a piece of, you will need to salvage it using an Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. The item will be destroyed that it was installed in but you will be able to salvage the upgraded item by using the glyph and its shards therefore it should not be considered a loss.
When you take away an item after adding a glyph, the shards that are part of the glyph will vanish. You can also add the glyph to your equipment to give it an extra benefit. Deferred Damage, for example can store damage, and then be dealt slowly to the wearer rather than all at once. This can be helpful for players who are taking lots of damage from their enemies but don't want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens are used to alter the affixes that are placed on weapons and other equipment. They can be obtained from various sources, such as mysterious boxes or rare drops from skulled monsters, or by killing bosses. Each reroll token gives the player a new random affix, which is typically better than the original one. Reroll tokens are also a great option to reroll stats on weapons, which can be upgraded to increase damage or other perks.
Rerolled items do not appear in the menu of upgrade options, however they can be upgraded. These rerolled items are able to be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button which alters the layout of the item window and allows up to six items to recycle. The level gauge is boosted by recycling an item. The amount is determined by the rarity of the item and its level. Thus, items with higher levels are more valuable to recycle than lower-leveled ones.
Players can also use Reroll Tokens and Star Remnants to roll rerolling Weapon Traits to upgrade units. A reroll will roll the % chance of a weapon trait. If it is higher, the weapon will be upgraded, and if it is lower, it remains unchanged. Weapons can be upgraded up to three times.
A reroll is a good option for upgrading an item, but users should be aware that it could reduce the overall ilvl the weapon due to the number of rerolls required to increase it to its final ilvl. This effect of lowering is most effective with Diadems and rings that don't have alternatives to raise their ilvls.
Some players have complained that the reroll system is too expensive. It's better to let people pay for it with money or food items, which will allow them to make changes to their builds without having to invest excessive amounts of time. However, paid rerolls are not something that the developers would like to incorporate at this point in the game's development. They are planning to add the ability for players to alter their race in the future.
Leveling
There are a variety of ways to boost the value of an upgrade for an item. The first method of leveling up an upgrade to an item is by increasing the amount of upgrade. This increases the upgrade value for the stat. The second is to increase the upgrade effect which increases the healing or damage of a specific stat. The base item can be upgraded to an advanced upgrade type. Once this is done the new item will maintain its iLevel, but will be upgraded with the effects of the upgraded item type.
It is important to remember that upgrades can be random. In most cases, a better roll will be derived from glyphs, however there are also possibilities for higher or more special rolls. In addition the iLevel of the upgrade will be determined by the type of item, so when you upgrade a rare or unique item to a unique type you will have a chance to get an increased iLevel.
Upgrades to items can be costly, particularly when you're upgrading an item of gear from the normal to the legendary track. The cost of upgrading an item will depend on the base iLevel and the amount of upgrade levels. Additionally, certain upgrade tracks require crests in order to get to the next upgrade level.
If you're lucky, your upgraded item will reach the highest level on its upgrade track, and will unlock an additional bonus effect. This will provide a significant increase in the value of the item. The bonus effect can change with each upgrade level though. In general, the upgrade effect is increased a value of +3.
Depending on the item's base level and upgrade path, the iLevel of the upgraded item will change as well. For example an item that has been upgraded from being a rare or exclusive item to an extraordinary one will have the chance to gain the enhanced defense of the new base item.
